Welcome to Bourbon & Breakfast. I’m here to share my kitchen adventures with you.

I love all things food. I remember my first favorite food being steak, attempting a chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake in the sixth grade, and believing that my family had invented peanut butter on waffles (anyone else?). In my senior year of college, I started cooking for necessity, rather than just the occasional baking adventure. I was tired of pizza, deli sandwiches, and “fancy” Zatarain’s rice dinners. With little time and money to spare, I still wanted to prepare healthy and delicious meals.

It’s intimidating to transition into cooking for yourself! You start with a bare pantry, hand-me-down kitchenware, and likely very little time and energy for the kitchen. Everything you make takes double the time promised, you dirty every dish you own, and in the end, it isn’t as tasty as you thought! You try searching for an “easy” meal on Pinterest and are bombarded with thousands of glossy pictures boasting 30-minute dinner ideas. This can be really overwhelming. My goal is to share healthy recipes (and decadent desserts) that are simple to prepare.

With fresh ingredients and a bit of creativity, you can create meals that you get excited about! It does take time, patience, and practice, but it’s a worthy endeavor and you can do it! I’ve spent a lot of time and effort the past 5 years figuring out my kitchen. Hopefully, the information and recipes shared on this blog can help you too.

The purpose of this site is to share simple and delicious recipes that anyone can make. My tastes tend towards amped-up comfort food. I’ll often spend the day dreaming about a marinade for a spicy pork taco recipe, how I can perfect that soft-baked pumpkin chocolate chip cookie, and where my next Greek salad is coming from. I also want to keep pushing myself to improve and experiment with new recipes. I’ll share the progress with you!

Finally, food provides the backdrop for the important moments with friends and family. And I want that backdrop to be delectable. If you make it, they will come!
